A few things we've done so far...

We had a visit from Buddy the Reading clown. She read a book to the students, gave them a colouring page, and left us with three books to read as a class to vote on our favourite.

We painted apple trees for each of the four seasons.

We've been working hard on patterns using different manipulatives.

We've talked A LOT about feelings and bullying.

One of my students brought this jerky for breakfast.

We celebrated the tenth day of school, and on Wednesday we'll celebrate the 2oth.

We made a patterned friendship chain, soon to be a bulletin board border.

We had a visited from the Purple Pirate, and so our art that afternoon was Pirate themed.

We participated in the annual Terry Fox Run, and most of my students chose to dedicate their run to Terry Fox.

We made some caterpillar friends on the run.

Hopefully soon I'll be able to give you a classroom tour and share some resources I've created for my class.

Take a look around our Northern (unnamed) community

Before bed tonight, I'd like to share a few images of the Northern Saskatchewan community I'm now calling home.

Here's the front of the house.

Some boats resting on the shore of the lake. Just about every family owns a boat or two it appears, so no one is afraid of their boats being stolen.

The co-op in town. It's the only place for several hours around to get groceries, so it's great when you run out of milk and can't go to La Ronge for groceries or Prince Albert for a week or more, but definitely WAY more expensive then buying elsewhere. You just have to decide, is it cheaper to buy there or hop in the car? Usually best to buy a big load every 2-3 weeks and pick up milk and bread here in between.

 The fire station.

The community hall and offices I believe. It's also where Mr. C can get our car registered, and possibly get some work.

The nursing station is in this building.

Here's a look at the shore of the lake.

And my daughters feet in the lake for the first time. She really didn't want to get her feet out, lol.

And of course, here's an image of my school (the elementary building, the high school is in a separate building)
 Here's our playground.

I LOVE this sign I found on the inside door of the co-op. If you know anything about teaching in Canada's Northern communities, you know it's hard to keep the kids in school, so this shows that the community is trying to keep them there so they can get an education.

That's it for today, more to follow soon!

Finally got internet!

No time for a good post, but thought I"d catch up on classroom updates.

Here's a few images of my room when I arrived last month:
