Super Alphabet match

Despite my class being in first grade, we are doing a lot of centres work on what is considered Kindergarten work.

In order to start guided reading in my school board, students need to pass the Emergent literacy test, and only a handful in my class have, So... during centre time, and during our morning circle for calendar and weather, etc, we have been working on the skills that will allow us to move forward.

The Emergent test tests students on letter names, sounds, sight words, concepts of print and a few other items.

The pictured centre is quickly becoming a favourite.
It's not mine though, you can download it for free from b-inspiredmama

Mini-number books

In our current math unit, we are busy learning the numbers to 20. This last week we made little booklets, and on each page, we drew a little picture to show that many of an object.

My favourite is the two students who decided to draw a rainbow with FOUR colours for 4. The student who did it for 9, it didn't turn out as well....  But we're working on it!

Good Lord, look at all the boxes that arrived at the fair! We ran the fair this week at the Literacy Carnival, and on Saturday at the Community Multi-fundraiser.

Four more days this week and it's done!

Halloween Decor more!

This will be one of the last posts I share of Halloween bulletin boards at my school. Two more teachers have something in progress right now, and I'll snap a picture when they're done to share with you so you can pin it for next year.

Our Fantastic Fourth Grade teacher did this fantastic bulletin board.

This Mummy is on my Classroom door, The white strips are white Crepe paper cut to lengths that are as wide as or slightly longer than the width of the door. I had a lot of fun taping these on.

This Batty Bulletin Board features hand print bats and my students faces inside the windows of our Haunted House. My kids had a hard time coming in after lunch since they all wanted to find their faces in the windows.

Mini gable box

I made one of these on a whim, and need to decide what to do with them.

I'm thinking I could use them for a centre of some sort. My daughter claimed this one to carry Goldfish Crackers to Daycare, lol.

Fake donuts for April Fools Day? In Yellow, it looks A LOT like a Timbits box from Tim Horton's....

Chicka Chicka Boom boom letters in the mail!

Last week while we were at our annual convention, I finally got around to mailing our letter Cc's to the other classes participating in the exchange. Here they are ready to go! I hope someone has received there's by now...

Book fair/ Literacy Carnival

So this is my first year running our Scholastic Book Fair (hopefully first of many).

When I chose our date for the fair, I took into account that the books would probably take longer to arrive than Scholastic figured (actually took less...), our PD day this Monday, and our Staff meeting scheduled Wednesday.

So when I was asked at the Staff meeting (moved to our PD day to make room for Mathletics training after school) why the Book Fair wasn't part of the Literacy Carnival this Thursday, I felt like a deer stuck in headlights!

I had no good answer since I hadn't thought about that at all. The Carnival hadn't even been set before the book fair dates were chosen.

But, now I'm gladly manning this as my "station" at the Carnival. Hopefully, we get a lot of business to earn books for our school!

Book Fair is still a go for next week.

Wish me luck!

Here's a pic of one of my last year's cuties colouring the book, and a close-up of one of the math pages:

Standardized test time!

My district has mandated tests for grade 1 and up, and so in the last few weeks we finished our first round of tests for the first unit. My kids rocked this test, and only 3 required any kind of intervention, way to go guys!
